To be an artist
I have been thinking about the above idea for the past several weeks. And, I know that tumblr contains many, many people who create. And I am lucky enough have some of those artists following me. What I ask of you is this:
If you create something, I want to hear from you. And I don’t care what it is you do: writing, drawing, painting, sculpting, music, anything. I know it may be difficult to classify oneself and confidently say “I am an artist,” but if you create anything, whether or not you would label yourself as creative or artistic, I wish to hear from you.
I want to know three things:
1) Why you create.
2) What your process is like.
3) What you feel hinders or limits you.
The third thing is by far the most important of all of these questions. That is the one I have been thinking about the most lately. And by limits you, I don’t mean, like, “I don’t have the correct supplies to achieve what I want to achieve.” I mean personal or relationship or psychological things that limit you as a creator.
